Beginning
Founded in 2012 by Kent and Katherine Narup as a dream to have a small home and vineyard within the Paso Robles area. After several years searching, a small property became available in the now coveted Willow Creek AVA recognized for some of the best fruit produced in the Paso Robles Viticultural Districts. The calcareous soils, unique micro climate, and our passion to produce excellent fruit makes this boutique vineyard stand out even within the Willow creek AVA.
We were so happy to find a small property within the Willow Creek AVA. Most properties in rural Paso Robles are larger properties that we were not able to afford. We were driving, as we often did, and noticed a "For Sale by owner sign". After a quick conversation with the owner, and I mean quick, less than 5 minutes, we decided we were going to make it happen.
After having a couple of family members stop by to see our "Dream Property", we both wondered "had we made the right decision". The look on their faces was not encouraging along with the inability to find any encouraging words didn't make us jump with joy.
We moved past this and decided they just couldn't see our dream the way we envisioned it. So the journey began :)
The House
When you see the before and after pictures of the old house on the property, you'll understand the reaction we got.
The "Little House", as we call, it was only 700 sq feet and was in bad shape. It was an unloved home that we believe was converted to a home after its previous life as a walnut storage warehouse. Built in 1920 it wasn't large, but adequate to store tools and products for the walnut orchard.
First, we thought we might be able to just modify it, but after 90 years, we were only able to save the foundation and roof. That alone made us happy because this two things saved the original nature of the home.
Katherine always wanted a home with a wrap around porch. As luck would have it, back in 1920 an 18" attic air space was a common practice because insulation wasn't redally avaliable. As luck would have it, this allowed us enough extra height to add a porch aound the entire house. The porch is larger than the inside of the house, but its so beautiful everyone loves sitting on the porch or exploring the property.
We love our "Little House"!
